Product Description
“The “Driver’s” watch, introduced by Omega in 1968 was designed to be worn ‘under’ the wrist, calibrated with the 12 o’clock position shifted 90° from its usual position to appear where one would usually expect to see the 3 o’clock numeral. Such dial layouts were a traditional form adopted by watchmakers for driver’s watches – allowing an easier reading of the time when the wearer’s hands were holding the steering wheel. However, Omega also marketed this model as a safer way to wear a wristwatch, especially for sportsmen, technicians, engineers and doctors and it was given the tag lines “Greater Visibility”, “Out of Harms Way” and “Stop-Watch Timing”. Omega launched the Driver’s Chronostop model in 1968 as a variant of the standard version of the model which had been introduced a couple of years before.”
