Buying From Watchtime: Your Questions Answered

Pre-owned Rolex and luxury Swiss watches, 22 Russell Place, Melbourne. Trading for over 35 years.

Watchtime has bought and sold pre-owned Rolex and luxury Swiss watches from 22 Russell Place in the Melbourne CBD for over 35 years, with more than 8,000 Rolex through our hands. These are the questions we receive the most.

How we check every watch

Is every watch at Watchtime genuine?

Yes. Every watch we sell is examined by our watchmaker, checked for original parts and authenticated before it goes on sale. If a watch doesn’t pass, we don’t sell it.

What do you check before a watch goes on sale?

Our watchmaker examines each watch inside and out: the case, dial, hands, bracelet and movement. We confirm the parts are original to the watch, check the serial and reference numbers against the model and any papers, and make sure it runs as it should.

What does “box and papers” mean?

It means the watch comes with its original box and the warranty card or certificate issued when it was first sold. A full set usually adds to a watch’s value and makes it easier to sell later. Each listing on our website says exactly what comes with the watch.

Why do some watches say “Coming Soon”?

These are watches we’ve bought that are still with our watchmaker or polisher. They go on sale once that work is done. Call us if you’d like to be first to see one.

Buying a pre-owned Rolex safely

How do I buy a pre-owned Rolex safely?

Buy from an established dealer with a real showroom you can visit, and see the watch in person if you can. Check that the serial and reference numbers match the papers, ask about service history and warranty, and pay by a traceable method to a business account. If a price looks too good to be true, it usually is. Read our full guide to buying a pre-owned Rolex safely.

What should I check before I buy?

  • The seller: a physical address, a phone number that’s answered and a trading history you can verify.
  • The watch: serial and reference numbers that match each other, the papers and the model.
  • The paperwork: what comes with the watch, and whether any manufacturer’s warranty remains.
  • The terms: what warranty the seller gives, and what it covers.

Are pre-owned Rolex cheaper than new?

Usually, at the moment. Only one to three years ago, around half the used Rolex we sold went for more than retail. Today about 95% sell below retail. Popular steel sports models like the Submariner still hold their value best.

How can I avoid a scam when buying online?

Never pay a seller you can’t verify. Confirm bank details by phone, using a number you’ve found yourself, before you transfer money. Be wary of pressure to pay quickly, prices well below market, and sellers who won’t show the watch in person. You’re welcome to view any watch on our website at our Russell Place showroom before you buy.

Is Watchtime an authorised Rolex dealer?

No. Watchtime is an independent dealer in pre-owned watches and is not affiliated with Rolex SA. Rolex, Datejust, Submariner and other model names are trademarks of Rolex SA.

Can I see a watch before I buy it?

Yes. Every watch on our website is in our showroom at 22 Russell Place, Melbourne, unless it’s marked “Coming Soon”. Call ahead on (03) 9650 3936 if you’re making a special trip. Browse pre-owned Rolex, including the Datejust and Submariner.

Warranty, returns, delivery and payment

What warranty do I get?

Pre-owned watches come with our 1-year store warranty. Some watches also carry the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty, and the listing says so where that applies. Water damage and rough handling are not covered.

How do warranty claims work?

Warranty claims are handled on a return-to-base basis, at the buyer’s cost. Contact us first at sales@watchtime.com.au and we’ll tell you how to send the watch in.

Can I return a watch if I change my mind?

No. We don’t offer refunds for change of mind, so please take your time, ask questions and view the watch in person before you buy.

How can I pay?

  • Bank transfer. The prices on our website are for payment by bank transfer.
  • Visa, Mastercard, American Express and debit cards, in store only.
  • Layby, for Australian buyers: 50% deposit, balance within 30 days.

All prices are in Australian dollars and include GST.
